GrizGuard Bear Spray – 7.9 oz, 30-Foot Fogger

When you’re on a trail miles from the nearest road, your safety plan needs to be simple, fast, and within reach. Bear encounters don’t announce themselves, and fumbling for your deterrent isn’t an option. That’s exactly the scenario the GrizGuard Bear Spray was built for — a full-size 7.9 oz canister that deploys a wide fogger cloud out to 30 feet, giving you a meaningful barrier of distance between you and an aggressive animal.

Who This Bear Spray Is For

This is the right choice for hikers, backpackers, hunters, anglers, forest service workers, and anyone spending real time in bear country. If you’re camping in grizzly or black bear habitat, leading a trail group, or working in remote wilderness areas, a compact keychain option won’t cut it. The 7.9 oz size gives you enough volume for a full, effective deployment. It’s also a solid choice for ranchers or rural property owners who’ve had bear activity near their land.

Choose It If You Want

How the GrizGuard Bear Spray Compares

Here’s how this canister stacks up against two common alternatives you might be weighing.

Care and What’s Included

What’s in the Box

• GrizGuard Bear Spray, 7.9 oz canister
• Hip clip holster
• Belt / visor clip
• Glow-in-the-dark safety wedge
• 32-page bear safety tips booklet

Care and Storage

Store the canister at moderate temperatures — avoid leaving it in a hot vehicle for extended periods, as extreme heat can affect pressurized canisters. Check the safety clip before each trip to make sure it’s seated properly. Keep the hip clip holster secured so the canister doesn’t shift while you’re moving. Review the bear safety booklet before you head out, especially if you haven’t deployed bear spray before. Know how to operate it before you need it.

Legal Notes

Bear spray is legal to purchase and carry in most U.S. states, but some parks, wilderness areas, and jurisdictions have specific rules about canister size, concentration, or carry method. Check with your local land management agency and confirm your state and local regulations before you buy or bring it into the field. Laws and park policies can change.

GrizGuard Bear Spray: Frequently Asked Questions

How far does the GrizGuard Bear Spray reach?

The GrizGuard Bear Spray deploys as a wide fogger cloud out to 30 feet. That distance gives you time to react before a bear closes the gap. A fogger pattern covers more area than a stream, which matters when an animal is moving fast or the wind is shifting.

What’s the difference between bear spray and regular pepper spray?

Bear spray is specifically formulated and EPA-registered for deterring bears. It uses a fogger or cone pattern designed to create a wide barrier at range. Standard personal pepper spray is built for close-range human threats with a tighter stream or cone. They are not interchangeable — use bear spray in bear country, not a personal defense canister.

Is the 7.9 oz canister enough for a full deployment?

Yes. The 7.9 oz size is a full-volume canister intended to deliver a complete deployment. Smaller canisters can run short if you need more than a brief burst. Having the full volume means you’re not rationing your deterrent during an actual encounter.

How do you carry the GrizGuard Bear Spray on the trail?

The included hip clip holster attaches to your belt or pack hipbelt so the canister rides on your body, not inside your pack. In a bear encounter, you need to access it in seconds. Practice unclipping it and removing the safety before you head out — muscle memory matters when your heart rate spikes.
